The goal of NASA VIPS Coaches is to mentor and transfer knowledge to upcoming NASA VIPS and HUNCH high school participants. This entails meeting and brainstorming with NASA HUNCH Engineers, meeting with HUNCH competitors at least 2 times per week, transferring knowledge and advice to HUNCH competitors, and being a point of contact and guidance high school students involved in VIPS.
Coach Requirements
- National finalist or semifinalist for NASA HUNCH Design and Prototype competition
- Background checked
- Ability to mentor students and guide project to completion
- Creative, collaborative, and education-focused
- Ability to relay knowledge and utilize information between fields and disciplines

The goal of the NASA VIPS Research Team is to brainstorm, introduce, and test new concepts and projects for HUNCH competitions and VIPS participants. This entails meeting and brainstorming with NASA HUNCH Engineers, transforming their ideas into written project specifications, and performing (and potentially publishing in conferences or journals) preliminary research that could be utilized by HUNCH competitors to complete their projects.
Research Team Member Requirements
- National finalist or semifinalist for NASA HUNCH Design and Prototype competition / otherwise experienced in S.T.E.M. fields
- Background checked
- Ability to perform research to formulate new insights and conclusions
- Experience with design, utilizing the scientific method, engineering, etc.
- Pursuing degree in S.T.E.M. field
